Monce’s parents met in a story worthy of a film: her mother, newly arrived in the U.S., was greeted every day by a tall, strong man with a seductive voice who would say “¡Buenos días señorita!”—a phrase that turned into friendship, and eventually, a passionate romance.

From her father, a blues singer, Monce inherited her deep, soulful voice. After his passing and her mother’s illness, Monce and her siblings were sent to San Luis Potosí, Mexico. There, her talent blossomed. As a child, she sang entire repertoires of Selena, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, and Ana Bárbara, effortlessly switching between high and low tones.
